SEASON ONE EPISODE DESCRIPTIONS

Episode 101 “Cruising has No Limits” World-renowned cruising couple Lin and Larry Pardey, present their latest documentary, which takes viewers on adventures to southern Africa, Brazil, and western Ireland.

Episode 102 “West Coast of Turkey” Join Canadian cruising couple, Paul and Sheryl Shard as they cruise the Aegean Sea and the west coast of Turkey aboard their 37-foot sloop, “Two Step.” In this episode, we sail past ancient ruins and olive groves then venture ashore for a Turkish bath and visit a picturesque town on an inland lake.

Episode 103 “In the Wake of the Zaca” This episode captures a lost age of adventure, romance, and Hollywood glamour told through the history of a 75 year-old topsail schooner. We sail with Zaca from its launch in San Francisco on the eve of the great depression, to its abandonment on a mud flat in southern France, and on to its eventual rebirth.

Episode 104 “Passage to Istanbul” This episode features the second leg of the Shard’s voyage in the Aegean, sailing north along the Turkish coast, through the Dardanelles, pausing at the Gallipoli War Memorial, then on to Istanbul past famous monuments to an anchorage near the old city.

Episode 105 “Cast Off for Catalina” An indispensable video guide to Catalina Island for boaters (and landlubbers too!). Learn how to pick up a “Catalina mooring” then circumnavigate this magical island visiting quaint towns and anchorages just 20 miles offshore from busy Los Angeles, California.

Episode 106 “Istanbul” Follow the Shard’s exploration of Istanbul from their base in Atakoy Marina. The couple visits the Grand Bazaar, one of the world’s oldest and largest covered markets. With local friends, they learn about Turkish fashion, food, and nightlife.

Episode 107 “Cruising with Bettie” A fast paced look at the cruising life style. Retired Hollywood cameraman and sailor Bob Steadman skippers his 36-foot sloop, “Bettie,” from Los Angeles, down the west coast of Mexico and Central America, through the Panama Canal into the Caribbean and on to the Bahamas with plenty of shore-side stops along the way.

Episode 108 “Mytilini” The next leg of the Shard’s Aegean Sea cruise. In this episode, we sail to the Greek island of Lesvos home of the Muses and poetess, Sappho, where we sail in the two gulfs of Kalloni and Years. Ashore, we visit the Mylelia water mill where sardines and olive oil are still produced in the traditional style. Next, we tour the catacombs at Skopelos then join in the fun at the Festival of Ay Marina.

Episode 109 "Dancing with the Wind” This episode tells the story of a 2-day cruise along Florida’s central Gulf coast that captures the romance and pure joy of sailing. Producer, sailor, and professional musician Ed Verner adds an original musical score to the award winning cinematography of Steve Secka who films the sailing from on board, the sky above, the sea, and just about every angle in between.

Episode 110 “Plomari” The final episode of the Shard’s Aegean adventure. On the Greek island of Lesvos, the Shards visit the town of Plomari, the capital of Ouzo, Greece’s famous alcoholic beverage. There we join the annual Ouzo festival with plenty of feasting, regional music, and free ouzo provided by the local distilleries.
